Far sound like the Deftones... well, the Deftones sound like Far because that's where the Deftones supposedly got their sound from. However, I do believe that the Deftones took their sound and ran with it, making a new sound that's completely their own and eventually had way more commercial success... either way, the bands did come together for a track that can be found on the B-Sides & Rarities album the Deftones put out. Hipsters and faggots will disagree so find out for yourself. I enjoy Tin Cans With Strings To You a whole lot and their new record, At Night We Live is really awesome as well. Enjoy!

Re-Traced Kid A?

So here's the new Cynic in the form of an ep, this album contains 4 re-worked songs and 1 new song. It definitely isn't what you are use to hearing and I guess Cynic are known for that considering their jump from death metal vocals to robot singing voice after a decade and a half absence from the metal world. I personally loved Traced In Air and feel it was a much needed breath of fresh air in the world of metal. Regardless of whether or not you liked the vocal change, you have to admit they're excellent musicians that ready stellar songs. So yeah, this album reminds me of Radiohead (kid a era) doing Cynic covers. I guess that's hard to understand, but the songs are lo-fi, folky version of their predecessors. The new song is pretty awesome too and thus making this a worthy download even if the previous description isn't your cup of tea. I still somewhat enjoy it and I guess it's because I'm a faggot. Hopefully they'll come out with a full length as good as "Traced In Air" soon. Enjoy!

Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010)

Ronnie James Dio lost his battle against stomach cancer and passed away earlier this morning. As a well respected member of the metal community, there is no doubt he will be missed. We here at Poonangular hang our heads and throw up the horns in respect of the legend that is Dio. This is a single download, double album paying respect to the late great Ronnie James Dio. Both Rainbow's "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" and Dio's "Holy Diver" in one single download! That rainbow album cover looks like the fucking Care Bears but it's fucking awesome! Somewhere Jack Black is crying softly.

Crucifist

So Circle of Dead Children can't make it to Maryland Death Fest this year due to their drummer not being able to make it. So they've been replaced by Crucifist! They're from Rochester, New York and play a mix of thrashy-old school-blackened-metal with some of the coolest vocals I've heard in a while. I feel like the crypt keeper or some zombie ghost is doing the vocals. Very different stuff here that will appease fans of thrash and old school death metal and black metal. Witchcraft

Witchcraft have probably been one of my favorite doom acts for the past 3 or so years. Doom in the vein of Sabbath from Finland. This guy sings great even when he's singing in English. 3 Is The Magic Number

As a result of being lazy, here's 3 albums from 3 different bands performing at this year's Maryland Death Fest. The Chasm, Eyehategod, and Gride. Let's make this fast... The Chasm are from Mexico City and play what I would call br00tal progressive death metal. Eyehategod are from New Orleans and play a heavy version of doom. Some might call it sludge, but the singer and band don't really care for that term and with a band named Eyehategod, you better just take their word for it. Gride are from the Czech Republic and play grind in the vein of blast beat absurdness... plus the Czech vocals add to the greatness. Also, no song titles on these records, you'll see them when you download them. I don't feel like doing all the weird symbols and apostrophes and shit for the Gride song titles. However, I do suggest you download all 3 albums and do your ears a favor. Enjoy!

Ghastly City Sleep

Ghastly City Sleep features members of Pageninetynine (pg. 99), Red Sparowes, Mannequin, and Crestfallen. They however, don't really play the type of music that those bands play. Actually Ghastly City Sleep plays an epic dream like atmospheric alt. rock. In a bit it reminds me of bands like Kent, Radiohead and Sigor Ros mixed together... some serious shoe-gaze action. Anyways, it's awesome in my opinion... definitely different than the usual postings here. Here's their self-titled debut on Robotic Empire as well as their new self-released album, "Moondrifts". The song, "Seven (33 leagues)" will make you cry. Enjoy!

My friend JonBoy is seeing them at the ALL GOOD Festival in West Virginia July 8th-11th.
